Galleri Riis - Oslo - Norway

.
Galleri Riis was founded in Trondheim in 1972 by Inger and Andreas L. Riis. Operating since 1980 in Oslo, Espen Ryvarden became its director in 1984. Since 2005 situated in a industrial building on the harbour, the gallery presides over unique exhibition spaces totaling 500 m2 with 5 m ceilings. In 2011 a second space was opened in Stockholm, occupying 150 m2 in the building of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the city center. This expansion consolidated the gallery as a central player on the Scandinavian art scene. Galleri Riis is today owned and directed by Espen Ryvarden and Kristin Elisabeth Bråten. The current exhibition program reflects a by now longstanding exhibition history; a primary focus on important contemporary art from the Nordic countries, and with a selective spotlight on international artists. The gallery has also mounted a number of historic exhibitions with contemporary and modern classics ranging from Tony Smith to Walker Evans.
