MacConnal-Mason - London - United Kingdom

.
The MacConnal-Mason family have now been established as art dealers for over one hundred and 15 years, and I felt that many of our clients might find it interesting to know something of the heritage that we enjoy.
The family involvement commenced in 1893 when my Great Uncle, Rayner MacConnal formed a partnership with Archibald Phillips founding a company called Phillips & MacConnal. The head office was Burlington Arcade, London with a branch in Bournemouth and The Art Gallery at the Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire. Phillips & MacConnal went on to also open a branch in Liverpool at Castle Street.
Between the two World Wars Phillips died and the Company was then carried on by Rayner MacConnal and the name changed accordingly. In 1935 my father Leslie MacConnal-Mason and Rayner MacConnal’s son Joseph MacConnal joined the Company and traded from the main gallery at 3 Old Bond Street with a branch in Harrogate called the Grosvenor Galleries.
During the Second World War my father was an Officer in the Royal Navy stationed at Scapa Flow and Largs in Scotland and Joseph MacConnal enlisted in the Royal Air Force. The business continued to run from Harrogate throughout the War during which Rayner MacConnal died. After the War as we had not occupied the Old Bond Street premises we lost our entitlement to reclaim them to continue our business in accordance with the law at that time.
My father Leslie MacConnal-Mason managed to acquire a lease in Duke Street, St. James’s from the renowned society hostess Rosa Lewis who was the owner of the old Cavendish Hotel. My father and Joseph MacConnal continued to trade from 19 Duke Street, St. James’s and the Grosvenor Galleries in Harrogate until in 1955 when they closed the Harrogate branch.
After leaving Highgate School in 1956 at seventeen years of age I joined my father and my Uncle Joseph MacConnal for a period of two years when my father dissolved the Rayner MacConnal partnership and we formed the MacConnal-Mason Gallery.
As the Cavendish Hotel was to be pulled down in 1959 we purchased the freehold of 14 Duke Street, St. James’s. In 1970 my father Leslie MacConnal-Mason died. In 1995 after a period of sustained growth I acquired the freehold of our flagship building 17 Duke Street. Between the two buildings we enjoy gallery space on eight floors.
My son David M. Mason, who is the fourth generation in the business, has now been with the Company for twenty three years and has played a major part in its expansion. We look forward to future generations joining the business.
David L. Mason O.B.E. Chairman

Michael Goedhuis - London - United Kingdom

.
Michael Goedhuis opened Michael Goedhuis Ltd in London in 1989, inaugurating the New York space in January 2002. Having spent two decades specialising in early Asian art, he now works in London and internationally to expand his concentration on Asia and Europe.

The Gallery's principal activities today are the promotion of the best Chinese contemporary art as well as Chinese works of art from the Neolithic period to Modern.

The current program concentrates on promoting the best Chinese ink painters working throughout the world today.

Goedhuis believes that China is currently undergoing a true "Cultural Revolution" which is not confined to art but is manifest in film, music, theatre, design, dance and literature and is leading to a rapid expansion of investment in art by a new generation of collectors.

He believes that contemporary Chinese Ink Painting is still at an early stage of recognition both in Asia and the West. It therefore offers exceptionally exciting and fruitful opportunities for collectors and museums. The program also encompasses the presentation of a wide range of Chinese works of art from all periods.

The new generation of Chinese is intent on retrieving their great cultural heritage and there is now a major drive to acquire Chinese art and antiques throughout the world. It is the objective of Michael Goedhuis to participate fully in restoring important works to committed institutional and private collections in China, as well as continuing to stimulate interest amongst museums in the West.

Gladwell & Patterson - London - United Kingdom

.
Gladwell & Patterson, with its distinctive windows on the distinguished and well known Beauchamp Place.

Anthony Fuller, the gallery's owner, says
“I'm past retirement age,” says Anthony with a youthful smile, “but I can't wait to get here in the morning. My job is to look around for beautiful things. Nothing gives me more pleasure than a great picture.” Gladwell & Patterson steer clear of abstract images, specializing in oil paintings, watercolours, drawings, etchings and mezzotints with traditional subjects.

“We never buy anything unless we like it, and we have touched it,” explains Anthony. “We do virtually no advertising, and most people come here by recommendation.” His passion for pictures explains why three or four generations of some families have always come here for art. People visit him from all over the world, and he thinks nothing of visiting five countries in a week to find new works for the gallery.

The gallery also restores pictures, and makes frames, using locally carved mouldings, some over two hundred years old.

Patrick Heide Contemporary Art - London - United Kingdom

.
Patrick Heide Contemporary Art sprung from a project space on London’s Church Street, patrick heide art projects, which was opened in 2004 showcasing an international repertory of artists that later on formed the base of the gallery program. In summer 2007 Patrick Heide Contemporary Art was founded to continue with parts of the already established program and to complement and reinforce it with a selection of new artists.

Patrick Heide Contemporary Art fosters an international range of emerging and mid-career artists. The program ranges from the politically motivated projects of Thomas Kilpper and the anthropological sculptures of Francesco Pessina to the playfully yet obsessively executed abstract canvases of Karoly Keserü. The gallery is particularly dedicated to the medium of drawing by showing exceptional works like the systematic drawing series by Isabel Albrecht, the alienating Photocopy Drawings by Alex Hamilton and the movement based installations by Sharon Louden.

Patrick Heide Contemporary Art aims to provide a rather timeless alternative to an art world that is often aimlessly theoretical and introspective yet addicted to marketing and fashion. In an attempt to reveal the underlying patterns of human society, its artists hope to create art that is intellectually challenging and socially relevant yet sensually and spiritually charged and technically accomplished.

Patrick Heide Contemporary Art hopes to give prominence to artistic statements concerned about the condition of nature and human nature, its urbanisation, history and transformation.
